Horrible. It’s cold and grey and occasionally it snows. But if it’s not snowing, it’s raining, if it’s not raining, it’s drizzling and if it’s not drizzling then it’s reeeeeeally foggy. BUT, I guess you can kind of have a good time… it depends on what your doing while your here.

I ewouldnt say dreadful,, but then Im used to it,, its about spring time then…so its not freezing but dont be packing your shorts! =),, but london in any weather is pretty good,and the star grade of the hotel doesnt really matter its more about the location… if its in a grotty area it can be a 5star and still be SH*T!..hope they have fun =)

I live in Central London and i say you should spend your New Years in Edinburgh. With all these new Europeans here in London they thieve and molest tourists for money as they cant get jobs or accomodation and they gonna rob you to feed themselves

Edinburgh is far better, more relaxed with loads of entertainment in the days leading up to the 31st!! It’s a far more relaxed atmosphere with an international feel, you’ll meet people from all over the world and probably snog a few as well.

Hotels always get booked up very quickly your cheapest option is to get a room in a hostel which works out a lot cheaper than a hotel. Check out

London still is good with Millennieum Wheel lighting up, but if you want a memorable experience do Edinburgh one year!

Traditionally, Edinburgh makes a much, much bigger deal of new year’s eve and there is more officially organised events to see and do, mostly centred around Princes Street, which is the “main drag”. It attracts a lot of tourists and the prices do tend to go up for the night!

In London, at least up until last year when there was a huge firework display, there is no official organised event and people just tend to congregate in Trafalgar Square to drink and dance, and listen to Big Ben chime midnight. Its fun but can get VERY crowded and the police try to deter people from going for safety reasons.

Both cities are excellent for New Year or Hogmanay as they call it in Edinburgh, I have experience both and they are both fun.

Edinburgh is a very commercial night and you need to purchase a ticket to get into the city centre. Accommodation can get quite pricey, so you need to book early.

London is a much much larger city and last year had an amazing fireworks display over the Thames. The main party takes place in Trafalgar Square and this is free. There is much more accommodation to choose from, but again book early.

You will get very similar experiences in both cities, so it is hard to say which one. If you are going to spend some time in London then goto Edinburgh for New Year but if you are not then stay in London.

Edinburgh. London gets too crowded. I was in London one year for New Years and spent the whole time jammed in crowds, having my butt & other things grabbed, and watching police beat drunks who messed with them. Ended up in Trafalgar Square by accident but that turned out ot be pretty cool. Then almost got crushed trying to get back on the tube again.

Edinburgh has Hogomony, also known as Snogmony since everyone gets pissed and spends the whole night kissing strangers. So a pretty wild scene too but lots of fun and the Scots are more laid back. If you are interested in staying in a hostel, that is the cheapest option but Call NOW to make a reservation. I recommend High Street Hostel or their sister next to the castle, Castle Rock. A night’s stay is usually GBP 12.50 for a shared room (4-10 beds) but may raise at this time of the year.

Antigua.
Barbados is farther away from London. lots to do. if you had $ you could send them to sandals Mediterranean village. but you don’t.

the Bahamas is very popular. lot’s of Americans go there since it is close so it’s definitely crowded.

come to Antigua. it is a great place for an anniversary.

I am in love with the Caribbean. Two of the islands you mention : Antigua and Barbados rate as some of my favorites. Antigua has a high desert of sorts with one of the most fascinating overlooks in the Caribbean. Barbados I have visited several times while on a cruise vacation. I especially like the people on Barbados as being so friendly. Bother islands hide the very poor inhabitants in the background but do not miss out on getting to where the real people live. That is the best way to get the real flavor of these islands.
